The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH) North Carolina State Board is a proud division of a historic Irish-American Catholic organization dedicated to faith, heritage, and service.

Our History & Mission

Founded on September 26, 1894, in Omaha, Nebraska, the LAOH was established to support Irish Catholic women in America while preserving Irish culture, traditions, and values. As the women’s auxiliary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH)—which has protected and advocated for Irish immigrants since 1836—the LAOH continues to uphold the principles of Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity.

Our Work in North Carolina

The LAOH has grown nationwide, and in North Carolina, we are committed to:

  • Promoting Irish heritage through cultural events, education, and traditions.

  • Supporting Catholic faith and education by providing scholarships and aid to religious vocations through initiatives like Project St. Patrick.

  • Engaging in charitable service to help those in need within our communities, both locally and abroad.

Membership & Community

The LAOH welcomes practicing Roman Catholic women of Irish descent or those with a deep appreciation for Irish culture. Through our divisions across North Carolina, we foster fellowship, celebrate our shared heritage, and make a meaningful impact through acts of service.

Whether you are looking to connect with your Irish roots, deepen your faith, or give back to the community, the LAOH offers a place where friendship and tradition thrive.
